A really common question asked by brides is, "what to wear bridal shopping?" Shopping for your wedding gown is such a special experience, but knowing what to wear can play on brides' minds. So follow our tips to make your bridal appointment run smoothly!
As your trusted bridal shop, we’ve put together this guide to help you prepare for your big day of dress hunting.
1. Choose Comfortable Undergarments
Your undergarments matter more than you might think! Opt for seamless nude or light-colored underwear to avoid any visible lines, especially if you’re trying on lighter fabrics like silk or chiffon. A strapless bra or convertible option is also a great idea, as it accommodates a variety of dress styles. Saying that, be prepared to remove your bra. The majority of dresses will have built-in cups so a bra might not be necessary.
2. Bring Shapewear (if you plan to wear it)
If you’re considering shapewear for your wedding day, bring it along! This will give you a better idea of how the dress will fit and feel on your big day. However, if shapewear isn’t your thing, that’s perfectly fine too - comfort and confidence are key.
3. Wear Minimal Makeup
While we know you’ll want to look your best, keep makeup minimal to avoid accidentally transferring it onto the gowns. A fresh, natural look works beautifully and ensures the dresses stay pristine.
4. Bring or Wear Shoes with a Similar Heel Height
If you have your wedding shoes already, fantastic! Bring them with you. But we know it's unlikely at this point. You can wear or bring a pair of heels with a similar height to what you plan to wear on your wedding day, or we have a selection at the boutique of shoes for you to try. This helps you see how the dress falls and whether alterations will be needed.
5. Opt for Easy-to-Change Clothing
You're going to be getting undressed pretty quickly into your appointment! Choose an outfit that’s simple to take on and off, as you’ll be changing multiple times during your appointment and it be a hot business. A button-down shirt or a loose dress is ideal.
6. Consider Your Hairstyle
While you don’t need to replicate your wedding-day hairstyle, it’s helpful to have your hair neatly styled so you can get a better sense of the overall look. Most of the time, brides adapt their hairstyle to their chosen dress, so it's a good idea to bring a hair tie or clip to try different styles.
7. Bring Accessories You Plan to Wear
If you already have a veil, jewelry, or other accessories, feel free to bring them along. This helps you see how they pair with different gowns. If you’re still undecided, our team can suggest beautiful options to complement your dress, and we have plenty of different accessories to try.
8. Keep Your Entourage Small
Okay, this isn’t about what you wear, but it’s worth mentioning! Bringing a small group of trusted friends or family ensures you’ll get honest feedback without feeling overwhelmed by too many opinions.
Bonus Tips for the Day:
Stay Hydrated: Bridal shopping can be a whirlwind, so drink plenty of water.
Eat Before Your Appointment: A light meal or snack will keep your energy up.
Relax and Have Fun: This is your moment. Embrace it and enjoy every second of finding your dream dress.
