In this blog post, Coral has given some great advice on what hairstyles would work and complement your wedding dress neckline.
It’s a great idea to consider the neckline of your dress when deciding on your hairstyle for your Wedding Day. There’s no right or wrong style for each dress type but envisioning how everything will come together can help be the deciding factor on any difficult choices!
Sweetheart
Sweetheart necklines are very versatile and most hairstyles would look gorgeous. The highlight is the bust area though so why not consider either having some longer face framing pieces or allowing the length of your hair to sit over your shoulders. A loose, soft half-up style or all down style would draw attention to the neckline.
Off The Shoulder
These dress types are amazing for showing off your decolletage so I’d avoid hairstyles that would cover that up. A style that pulls the hair back off the shoulders would be perfect for highlighting this neckline. All down and tucked behind the ear, a low/mid bun or ponytail would be gorgeous with this look.
V-Neck
Whether you choose to show off some length or have your hair all up may depend on the sleeve type or your personal preference with this style. The more material there is around your shoulders and arms, the less hair you may want to have sat over it. We do want to highlight the cut of the ‘V’ though so I would definitely recommend something that brings your attention to the center and aligns with the point on that V. A messy bun with some tendrils falling through it or a mid-ponytail, for example. Mermaid and princess braids are becoming quite a trend recently too!
Straight/Square Neck
All down or very subtle half up hairstyles are beautiful with this type of neckline! These hairstyles really help to ‘connect the dots’ and pull the look together as they create a seamless flow from the top of your head down to your dress and can soften the look.
Plunge
Anything that sits low (to tie in with that low cut!) works perfectly with a plunge neckline! Think low buns and ponytails, Hollywood waves, mermaid braids, half ups that are pulled back to create the shape of a ‘V’ and highlight your collar bones.
High Neck
As high neck dresses tend to have a fair bit of material around your neck/shoulder area, high buns and ponytails are great for following that flow. If you don’t feel comfortable with those types of styles though, low clean buns or all down styles that are tucked behind the ear with one section of length pulled to sit in front of your shoulder look beautiful!
One main thing to consider with all these looks is, generally speaking, if there’s very little material around your neck and back, using your hair often helps to make you look and feel less bare and tends to pull the whole look together.
Choosing something that makes you feel like the best version of you should always be the main goal when deciding on different parts of your bridal vision. However, if you’re struggling to decide between certain details, considering how the styles will look with your dress may help.
